2013-14 Foundation Scholarship Applications Available April 1
The General Application for Kappa Delta Rho Foundation scholarships will be done entirely online, and a link will be available on April 1, 2013, on the Foundation website at www.kdr.org.
This 100 percent online application allows applicants to upload their grade reports and submit their essay questions directly to the website. For applicants, this makes the process more user friendly, and it streamlines the reviewing process for the many applications received by the Foundation Scholarship Committee, which selects the recipients.
In August 2012, the Foundation awarded $50,250 in scholarships to 53 recipients, BUT several scholarships could not be awarded because there were NO applicants. In April, take time from your busy academic schedule to visit www.kdr.com to apply for the 2013 scholarships.
Applications must be received on or before June 15, and the scholarship recipients will be announced on August 3 at the Elmon M. Williams Leadership Academy in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Centennial Campaign News
It is hard to believe that it was 4 years ago when we set out on the journey which has been the historic Kappa Delta Rho Centennial Recognition Campaign (CRP). Our goal is to raise $2.5 million to endow the leadership and educational programs of the national fraternity. We’ve made a lot of progress, but we still have a long way to go, and we need your help! A campaign newsletter (which is available below in PDF format) has been mailed to all 17,000 of our living alumni brothers, along with a letter asking them to consider a pledge to the campaign. If you’ve not yet made a pledge, we hope you’ll read this newsletter and feel compelled to make a financial commitment to the future of KDR. If you already pledged your support, I hope you’ll consider speaking with a few of your brothers about joining you on the Centennial Recognition Wall of Honor.

Kappa Delta Rho Announces Dates for the 2009 KDR Wilderness Institute
The Kappa Delta Rho Wilderness Institute will trek into the Colorado Rockies from May 30 to June 5, 2009. Join the Gamma class of the Kappa Delta Rho Wilderness Institute in Denver, Colorado this summer. To apply to be part of this program, you must be a fully initiated Brother of Kappa Delta Rho, and submit your application for consideration to the National Office. You can download the application at here.
The 2009 Kappa Delta Rho Wilderness Institute is the third year the program has been offered by the National Fraternity through generous donations to the Kappa Delta Rho Foundation. The program is designed to provide hands on leadership programming, substance free Brotherhood building activities, personal growth opportunities, and core values exploration for a selected group of student leaders within our organization.
Kappa Delta Rho will again partner with Innernature, an organization experienced in developing outdoor leadership programs, to facilitate this awesome educational experience. The program will be a 7-day backpacking trip in the Colorado Mountains. The Brothers participating will have daily programming in basic outdoor survival training. During the program Leadership skills will be discussed and refined through a variety of methods.
Each day there will be two Brothers designated as team leaders. They will lead the group, make command decisions and, at the close of the day, receive feedback, both positive and negative, from the group on their leadership skills. All of the participants will have daily planned programming pertaining to the ritual and precepts of Kappa Delta Rho. The programming will link the values and ritual of KDR to participant’s daily lives. In addition each Brother will have the opportunity to participate in a solo experience spending one night alone in the wilderness.
Each participant will benefit from ongoing provocative conversations about the fraternity, college, their values, the concept of Brotherhood, and how all of these things unite in defining who they are as men and as leaders. They will receive concrete tools and ideas to use in their lives, and in their chapters. All participants will be physically and mentally challenged by the terrain, the weather, their peers, the conversations, and the experience in its entirety.

IRA Charitable Rollover Opportunity Extended!
On October 3, 2008, the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 (H.R. 1424) extended the IRA Charitable Rollover for two additional years. Originally passed in 2006 as part of the Pension Protection Act, the IRA Charitable Rollover allows individuals age 70½ and older to make direct transfers of up to $100,000 per year in 2008 and 2009 to the charity or charities of your choice, without having to count the transfers as income.
The brother’s who are eligible to take advantage of this giving opportunity should be receiving a letter with more information on how to give to the Foundation with a gift from their IRA. If you have already contributed to the CRP, but have not paid your pledge balance, this may be a good option for you to aid in paying the remainder of your pledge. If you have already paid your pledge balance, please consider making an additional gift from your IRA to help us reach our CRP goal!
For more information about this giving opportunity please contact Matt Jarrard, Assistant Director of Development, at mjarrard@kdr.com or 770-903-3987.
